Jobless? Stay Active, Stay Sharp, and Land Your Next Big Opportunity!
Losing a job is tough—I know because I’ve been through it three times.
- Sept 2009 – March 2010: When I finally found a job, I had to borrow money to buy my flight ticket. Ironically, I was employing five young professionals at that time.
- Aug 2014 – May 2015: Again, I had to use a credit card to afford my ticket when I secured a job. I was still employing six young people.
- Feb 2024 – June 2024: This time, financial issues weren’t a concern. I had a small office, worked on multiple projects, read, wrote, and networked extensively.
Through these experiences, I learned first-hand what job-seekers go through. And I discovered that the key to getting a job is never feeling jobless. Here’s what worked for me:
A. Stay Active in Your Field
One of the worst things you can do when unemployed is go silent. Stay in the game!
✅ Keep writing on social media and industry platforms.
✅ Respond to messages and build relationships.
✅ Track recruiters and companies, then apply strategically.
B. Work 9-to-6 Like You Already Have a Job
Unemployment isn’t a vacation—it’s a phase. Treat it like a job hunt, not a waiting period.
✅ Get dressed and start your day as if you’re already employed.
✅ If you can’t afford an office, go to a library, a co-working space, or even a park.
✅ I rented an office and kept it even after landing a job—because consistency matters.
C. Remove the Feeling of Joblessness
✅ The first step to getting a job? Stop feeling jobless.
✅ Act as if you are working, learning, networking, and adding value every day. When you carry that energy, opportunities will come to you.
I’ve been there, and I know how it feels. But trust me—stay active, stay sharp, and your next big break is just around the corner!
